Brook Lane Improvements
Posted or Updated on 1 Apr 2026
Advance works to divert utilities (Virgin Media, BT) are scheduled to commence on Tuesday 7 April for approximately four days, with permitted working hours between 9:30am and 3:30pm. Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place on Brook Lane during the works.
Works to install two zebra crossings on Brook Lane are scheduled to commence on Monday 13 April for approximately five weeks, with permitted working hours between 7:30am and 6pm.
For the safety of the public and workers, Brook Lane will be closed to southbound traffic at all times throughout the works between the junction with the A27 Bridge Road and roundabout at Headland Drive/Lockswood Road. As works progress towards the end of April, traffic management will be adjusted to shift operations from one side of the road to the other. During this time, northbound traffic will be temporarily diverted into the southbound lane with clear signage in place.
Please visit Causeway one.network to view the diversion route for southbound traffic and the exact location of the works.
The construction works will include the following:
- construction of two zebra crossing points
- footway buildouts at the locations of the crossings (small pavement extensions that narrow the road to make crossing shorter and safer for pedestrians).
- installation of tactile (bumpy) paving
- road resurfacing
- installation of electrical cables and connection of the belisha beacons
Advance warning signs will be in place prior to the works starting. Access to properties, the hospital, GP surgery and Royal Mail sorting office will remain open. Emergency services access will be maintained during the works. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the opposite side of the lane closure on Brook Lane.
