Moving to Digital-First
Posted or Updated on 17 Dec 2025
We are making it easier for you to manage your health by embracing a digital-first approach to communication. This means you will hear from us more often through the NHS App, text messages, and email – helping us reach you quickly, securely, and conveniently.
Why are we making this change?
- More patients are going digital: At the end of October, 69% of our patients were registered on the NHS App, and in October alone, patients logged in 20,420 times.
- Better access to services: In 2025, we saw a 63% increase in repeat prescriptions ordered through the NHS App compared to 2024.
- Supporting the NHS 10-Year Health Plan: Digital solutions are key to making the NHS fit for the future.
What does digital-first mean?
- The NHS App will be our main communication channel, followed by text messages and emails.
- Digital-first does not mean digital-only – we will still send letters to patients who need them.
Benefits for You
- Improved experience: See all your healthcare messages in one place – the NHS App, texts, or your email inbox.
- Fewer missed appointments: Get reminders and push notifications when you turn on NHS App alerts.
- Cost savings for the NHS: Reducing letters helps save money that can be reinvested in patient care.
- Better prevention: Receive timely reminders for services like routine vaccinations.
What can you do to help?
- Keep your contact details up to date – home phone, mobile number and email.
- Sign up for the NHS App if you are 13 or older. You may need to complete paperwork at the surgery.
- Ages 11–12: A trusted adult can act as a proxy user. You will need to visit the surgery to set this up.
- Under 11: Your parent or guardian can request proxy access to your records at the surgery.
